Vanguard offers and extensive line of Foam Products which includes premium foam concentrates for both Class A and B fires, proportioning equipment for various system arrangements, and an array of discharge devices to cover your application. And you can look to our experts for both products and design assistance.
Firefighting foam is made of three ingredients - a foam concentrate, water, and air. The concentrate is mixed with water (proportioning), creating a foam solution. That solution is mixed with air (aspirated) to produce the foam, which is very fluid, readily flowing over liquid surfaces. The foam itself is a stable mass of small, air-filled bubbles with a lower density than oil, gasoline, or water.
Firefighting foam products suppress fire by separating the liquid fuel from the air (Oxygen) it needs to burn. Depending on the type of foam agent, this is done in one of several ways:
-
The foam blankets the fuel surface, smothering the fire and separating the flames from the fuel surface
-
The foam cools the fuel and adjacent heat and ignition sources
-
The foam suppressed the release of flammable vapors that can mix with air
Using the right foam for a specific hazard is critical. Vanguard professionals can design a system that provides the right foam agent, using the best delivery methods for your facility. The actual foam agents used by Vanguard are many and include:
- ANSULITE, an Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) is the agent of choice for Class B fires and comes in a variety of concentrates and two core formulations, AFFF and Alcohol-Resitant AFFF (AR-AFFF). The variations of Ansulite are used in airports, refineries, petrochemical facilities, and by many municipal fire departments.
- SILV-EX Foam is a Class A Foam agent that immediately wets, cools and insulates a fire and is often used in lumber mills, paper warehouses, tire factories, power generation (coal), and in fighting forest fires.
- ANSUL-A foam is used on Class A fires, using compressed air foam systems.
- JET-X is a high expansion foam that is for use on Class A, B and LNG fires. It is capable of flooding large rooms and enclosures when used with the proper delivery equipment.
Foam systems are capable of many types of suppression. A team of Vanguard Professionals with many years of experience will assist you in designing the system that will perform optimally for your specific hazards. |
